Regional Financiers, Service Providers to Explore Angolan Business Opportunities at AOG 2024
This year, representatives from global and regional service providers, legal institutions and finance players are expected to delve into a variety of key topics, from perspectives on the ease of doing business, to empowering local talent, to driving operational efficiencies and more.
Angola anticipates an investment pipeline of more than $60 billion across its upstream oil and gas industry, creating new opportunities for service contracts, investments and legal support. As the premier platform for the Angolan oil and gas industry, AOG 2024 unites the entire value chain with the aim of driving projects forward, fostering collaboration and integrating various sectors of the Angolan economy.
AOG is the largest oil and gas event in Angola. Taking place with the full support of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas; the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency; the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute; national oil company Sonangol; and the African Energy Chamber; the event is a platform to sign deals and advance Angola’s oil and gas industry. Amid rising exploration and development activities, Angola anticipates an increase in demand for oilfield services. For Angolan service providers, this presents a strategic opportunity to not only gain access to high-value contracts, but also drive major projects that can help reach national production targets. During AOG 2024, speakers representing Angolan service providers and associations will unpack these opportunities. Speakers include:
- Berta Issa Conde, President, the Association of Service and Equipment Companies
- Filipa Vilhena, Vice President, the Association of Service Providers of the Angolan Oil & Gas Industry
- Sara Silva, Legal and Compliance Manager, FAMAR
- Alissa Mangy, Head of Industrial Projects and Customs Affairs, DHL
- Miguel Baptisa, Managing Director – Central, East and Southern Africa, SLB
Angola is currently finalizing contracts for blocks awarded under its 2023 Bid Round, whereby 12 blocks were on offer across the Lower Congo and Kwanza onshore basins. At the same time, the country is preparing to launch its next tender in Q1 2025, offering ten blocks for exploration in the offshore Kwanza and Benguela basins. At AOG 2024, speakers from Angolan legal institutions will provide insight into Angola’s business and regulatory environment, with a focus on new license awards and bidding processes. Speakers include:
- Catarina Levy Osório, Founding Partner, ALC Advogados
- Elmano Costa, Senior Associate, Morais Leitão Legal Circle
- Rui Andrade, Partner, Melo Alves
Angolan finance providers are expected to play a more proactive role in funding projects across the country’s oil and gas value chain, particularly as the country looks to expand domestic infrastructure and regional fuel distribution. With ambitions to increase intra-African petroleum trade, Angola is pursuing accelerated refining, pipeline and logistics developments. For Angolan financial institutions, this creates a unique opportunity to support project development and enhance regional energy security. During AOG 2024, finance players will speak on strategies for improving access to finance for Angolan companies and associated projects. Speakers include:
- Osvaldo Lemos Macaia, CEO, Banco Sol
- Fernando F. Chivinda, Executive Head, Standard Bank Angola
