Luis José Alves Fernandes is a dedicated professional with over 30 years of experience in the oil industry, specializing in the upstream oil and gas sector. His career is marked by extensive training in key areas such as Formation Evaluation, Seismic Interpretation, and Petroleum Engineering.

Throughout the last decade, Mr. Fernandes has managed a diverse range of projects supporting the oil and gas value chain. His work has included assessing domestic and industrial gas needs, overseeing the Sonangol Drillship Construction Project, conducting feasibility studies for shipyard rehabilitation, and leading the Sonangol group's structural reorganization program. He has also coordinated efforts related to Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) and has been instrumental in creating conditions to meet ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) requirements within the Sonangol group.

In the past two years, Mr. Fernandes has served as the Managing Director of the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute (IRDP) at MIREMPET in Luanda, Angola. In this role, he has focused on enhancing the distribution of petroleum products across the country.

His professional journey began at Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (Chevron Subsidiary) in Malongo, Cabinda, where he held various positions from 1987 to 2002, including Geology Technician, Drilling Geologist, Operations Supervisor, and Development Geologist. He later served as the Exploration Geologist and Supervisor of the Geology Department.

From 2010 to 2022, Luis Fernandes worked at SONANGOL EP in Luanda, Angola. He held multiple roles, including Technical Advisor to the Executive Committee, Deputy Director of the Restructuring Program, and Director of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE).

Mr. Fernandes holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Louisiana State University (1991–1996) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix (2006–2008). He remains committed to leveraging his extensive experience and knowledge in administration and management to contribute to the industry’s ongoing development.
