Hon. Kornelia Shilunga
Hon. Kornelia Kashiimbindjola Shilunga (MP) was born on May 25, 1970, in Okadila, Oshana Region. She has been a Member of Parliament since 2015 and currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy, making her the first woman to hold this position in the ministry.
Before joining the National Assembly and the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Hon. Shilunga built an impressive career. She began as a teacher in 1990, followed by a role as a registered nurse from 1991 to 1997. She then worked as a Liaison Officer in the Office of the President, Department of Women Affairs, overseeing Oshana and Omusati regions from 1997 to 2000. From 2000 to 2008, she served as a Senior Chief Community Liaison Officer in the Ministry of Gender, Equality, and Child Welfare. Following this, she ventured into entrepreneurship from 2008 to 2014.
In addition to her business acumen, Hon. Shilunga has been actively involved in various committees and organizations. She served on the Advisory Committee of Skill Share International in Namibia and was a member of the Women and Child Protection Unit Committee for the Oshana Region. She has also been a member of the Zonal Release Board in the Ministry of Safety and Security, covering Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, and Kunene regions. Moreover, she contributed to the Oshakati East Constituency Development Committee (CDC) and the Oshana Regional Food Security and Nutrition Program.
Currently, she is the Chairperson of the Namibian Energy Council and serves as the patron of the Women in Mining Association of Namibia as well as the World Energy Council (Namibia Platform).
