Viridien Bets on Angola’s Next Exploration Cycle as CEO Henning Berg Joins AOG 2026
Viridien’s newly appointed CEO Henning Berg has been confirmed as a speaker at the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) Conference and Exhibition, taking place September 9-10, with a pre-conference day scheduled for September 8. His participation comes at a pivotal moment for Angola’s upstream sector, as the country intensifies exploration efforts to sustain crude production above one million barrels per day.
Angola is pursuing an exploration-led strategy to maintain production and strengthen reserve replacement as mature fields continue to decline. Backed by licensing reforms, regulatory incentives and an anticipated $70 billion upstream capital expenditure program, the country is advancing new exploration campaigns aimed at unlocking fresh discoveries while maximizing value from existing acreage. Major developments such as the Kaminho project in the Kwanza Basin, alongside frontier activity in the Namibe Basin and upcoming onshore licensing opportunities, highlight Angola’s push to sustain long-term output.
As exploration activity expands, seismic data is playing an increasingly central role in investment decisions. High-quality acquisition, advanced reprocessing and subsurface imaging technologies allow operators to improve reservoir understanding, reduce geological uncertainty and identify higher-confidence drilling targets. In Angola’s capital-intensive upstream environment, these capabilities are becoming essential to improving drilling success rates and accelerating project development.
Viridien has continued to strengthen its position in Angola through advanced seismic imaging and multi-client data solutions. The company maintains extensive 3D broadband seismic coverage across key offshore basins, including the Lower Congo and Kwanza, helping operators generate prospects and evaluate opportunities in both mature and frontier acreage. Its regional 3D PSDM dataset spans more than 7,200 km², providing exploration-ready insights into pre-salt and post-salt plays.
The company has also expanded its data portfolio further. In 2025, Viridien launched a seismic reimaging program over Block 22 to support Angola’s upcoming 2026 licensing round. The 4,300 km² dataset provides new insight into underexplored structures along the Atlantic Hinge zone, with final results expected in Q3/Q4 2026.
As Angola steps up exploration activity, AOG 2026 remains a key platform connecting operators, technology providers, investors and policymakers. By bringing together seismic and data companies with upstream decision-makers, the event supports the partnerships required to translate geological potential into commercially viable projects. Berg’s participation reflects the growing importance of seismic intelligence in shaping Angola’s next phase of exploration.
