Upstream Companies Join AOG 2025 to Discuss Projects, Procurement and Partnerships

Upstream Companies Join AOG 2025 to Discuss Projects, Procurement and Partnerships
This year’s Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) conference – taking place September 3-4 in Luanda – will feature the participation of key upstream players, including representatives from ACE Energy, Corcel, bp, ExxonMobil and Chevron. Their participation comes as Angola strives to advance exploration and production across both onshore and offshore basins, with insights set to cover a variety of strategic topics from frontier drilling to natural gas development to trade and procurement.

ACE Energy has been gradually expanding its presence in the Angolan upstream sector in recent years, building on its experience in Nigeria to explore and develop onshore assets. The company was one of several firms that submitted proposals for operatorship of blocks in the onshore Kwanza basin in 2025. This follows ACE Energy securing operatorship of Block CON 8 under the country’s 2023 licensing round. Christopher Nwokolo, Group Managing Director & CEO, ACE Energy, is speaking at this year’s AOG 2025 conference.

Another company advancing onshore exploration is Corcel. The company plans to kickstart a 2D seismic program at Block KON 16 in Q3, 2025, mobilizing funding for exploration activities through a partnership agreement signed with Sintana Energy. At Block KON 11, Corcel restarted intervention activities at the Tobias-13 and Tobias-14 wells, while advancing data acquisition for Block KON 12. Richard Lane, COO of Corcel, is speaking at AOG 2025. Lane is leading a pre-conference workshop on Advancing Onshore Kwanza Basin Pre-Salt Exploration – KON 16 Case Study.

Energy major Chevron is also making strides across the country’s upstream landscape. The company has expanded its footprint with new deepwater concessions and is advancing natural gas development through strategic projects. In 2024, Chevron also signed two Risk Service Contracts for Blocks 49 and 50 in ultra-deepwater acreage in the Lower Congo Basin. At AOG 2025, Clement Kilembe, Commercial Manager: Gas, Chevron, is expected to spotlight Angola’s diversification strategy through natural gas.

Meanwhile, ExxonMobil continues to advance exploration across frontier and proven basins. The company is exploring the Namibe basin, targeting play-opening discoveries, and has recently signed license extensions for Block 17 and Block 15. The license extension comes as ExxonMobil - alongside its Block 17 partners - started production at the CLOV Phase 3 Development in July 2025. During AOG 2025, ExxonMobil’s OIMS, Safety & Risk Supervisor Vera Veloso and Production Engineer Bruno Nunes are participating.

bp has an active footprint across both the upstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas value chain. Its upstream activities are driven through its joint venture company Azule Energy, while bp subsidiary T&S Refining & Products Trading Europe & Africa leads its downstream efforts. Kevin Fiifi Dadzie, Ghana Regional Manager, T&S Refining & Products Trading Europe & Africa at bp, has joined the AOG 2025 conference to discuss the challenges and opportunities across Angola’s oil and gas market.

AOG is the largest oil and gas event in Angola. Taking place with the full support of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas; the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency; the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute; national oil company Sonangol; and the African Energy Chamber; the event is a platform to sign deals and advance Angola’s oil and gas industry.
