INTERVIEW: Banco Sol Expands Specialized Financing for Angolan Oil Companies
Osvaldo Lemos Macaia, Chairman of the Executive Board, spoke to event organizers about the bank's strategy for financing Angola's oil and gas sector.
"Over the last two years, we have improved our products and services to match the needs of oil and gas companies, mainly companies operating on the service side," said Macaia. "We have structured short-term finance to improve their liquidity condition and cash flow."
Banco Sol established a dedicated oil and gas desk two years ago to deepen its sector expertise and strengthen lending to energy companies. However, Macaia said financing costs remain a key challenge for domestic suppliers.
"The biggest challenge is the cost of capital," he said, noting that local companies are paid in kwanza by international operators while borrowing costs remain high.
These issues are expected to be a key focus at AOG 2026, taking place September 9-10, with a pre-conference day on September 8. The event will bring together industry leaders, government officials and investors to advance strategies for strengthening Angola's oil and gas value chain.
According to Macaia, the conference also provides an opportunity to strengthen relationships with investors and showcase Banco Sol's capabilities.
