Global Energy Associations, Advocacy Groups Join AOG 2025
As sub-Saharan Africa’s second-largest oil producer and with a slate of exploration and production projects on the horizon, Angola is well-positioned to become a regional petroleum hub. The country is actively seeking investment in downstream infrastructure to improve domestic distribution, cut refined fuel imports and consolidate its role as a leading oil and gas supplier. A series of global energy associations and advocacy groups have joined the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) conference to discuss strategies for strengthening the Angolan oil and gas value chain. Speakers will outline the role oil and gas plays in the country, opportunities across the downstream sector and the impact policy have had on the market.

NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber (AEC), returns to the AOG conference as a keynote speaker. Serving as the voice of the African energy sector, the AEC collaborates with African and international partners with a view to advancing energy projects and alleviating energy poverty. The chamber has long-played an instrumental role in advocating for greater investment across the African oil and gas value chain, recognizing the intrinsic role these resources play in the continent’s development. Held under the theme Angola at 50: Oil and Gas as a Development Driver, AOG aligns closely with these priorities.

As Angola’s downstream regulating body, Instituto Regulador dos Derivados do Petróleos (IRDP) plays an important role in facilitating investment and development across the country’s downstream sector. Angola eyes 445,000 barrels per day in refining capacity, enhanced LPG production and distribution as well as increased petroleum trade. To achieve these goals, the IRDP is working with a host of international and regional stakeholders. During AOG 2025, António Feijó Júnior, Deputy Director General of the IRDP, will unpack the opportunities available across Angola’s downstream sector.

Meanwhile, Anibor Kragha, Executive Secretary of the African Refiners & Distributors Association (ARDA), has also joined the event. Kragha’s return to the conference reflects the organization’s commitment to strengthening African fuel security by working closely with major producers to bolster regional distribution at low cost. Serving as the voice of the African downstream sector, ARDA plays a fundamental role in promoting strategic collaboration, policy advocacy and industry innovation.

Elitsa Georgieva, Executive Director of downstream consulting firm CITAC, will speak at this year’s AOG conference. CITAC analyzes pressing infrastructure challenges faced across Africa, as the continent strives to address rising fuel demand. By offering strategic insights into emerging trends and opportunities, the organization supports investment decisions in line with national oil and gas goals. Georgieva’s return to the event underscores the fundamental role Angola plays in African petroleum chains and is expected to unlock new investments and collaborations across the region’s supply chain.

AOG is the largest oil and gas event in Angola. Taking place with the full support of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas; the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency; the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute; national oil company Sonangol; and the African Energy Chamber; the event is a platform to sign deals and advance Angola’s oil and gas industry.
