INTERVIEW: Copia to Showcase Latest AI-Powered Software at AOG 2026
Speaking with Energy Capital & Power ahead of the event, Adilson Nelumba, CEO of Copia Group of Companies, said the new platforms leverage AI and machine learning to support seismic interpretation and oilfield management. The software forms part of the company’s broader strategy to develop locally produced digital solutions for Angola’s oil and gas industry.
Traditionally focused on technical supervision, quality control and quality assurance for upstream exploration projects, including seismic campaigns, Copia is increasingly investing in technology development while expanding its service offering across the oil and gas value chain.
Beyond technological solutions, Nelumba also highlighted the importance of strengthening local participation in Angola’s petroleum industry. He noted that local companies currently account for only 12% of services provided to the sector and said Copia is working with industry stakeholders – including the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas and the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency – to help raise that figure to 20% within the next three years.
Despite six decades of oil production, Angola still lacks domestic companies capable of conducting seismic acquisition or drilling wells independently, according to Nelumba. He said Copia is collaborating with industry organizations to help build these capabilities and support long-term local content development.
The company has elevated its commitment to AOG 2026 – set to take place from September 9‒10 in Luanda with a pre-conference day scheduled for September 8 – from Gold Sponsor in 2025 to Platinum Sponsor this year. Nelumba described the conference as Copia’s most important annual industry event and a key platform for showcasing its services, technology and local content initiatives directly to operators, investors and decision-makers.
