Chevron Eyes New Block 0 Investments as Angola LNG Hits Full Capacity
Energy major Chevron plans to invest in new assets in Angola’s Block 0 following the extension of the concession to 2050, as the company strengthens an integrated gas value chain that has helped Angola LNG reach its one billion cubic feet per day capacity.

Speaking during a fireside chat at the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2026 Conference and Exhibition, Frank Cassulo, Southern Africa Managing Director at Chevron, said Block 0 will remain a strategic part of the company’s long-term portfolio despite the maturity of the asset.

“Block 0 is a very mature and prolific asset. We recently had an extension for the block that moved it to 2050,” he said. “We will be retiring assets in Block 0 but also investing in new assets.”

The concession provides Chevron with both liquids production and a long-term source of gas, supporting a wider value chain centered on the Angola LNG facility. The move builds on an August 2026 milestone in which Chevron confirmed an oil and gas-condensate discovery at the 105-4X well in Block 0. The well encountered more than 600 meters of hydrocarbon column and over 90 meters of net pay, with Chevron now assessing a potential tie-back to nearby infrastructure.

Beyond Block 0, Cassulo also announced during the AOG session that the Angola LNG (ALNG) plant has reached its one billion cubic feet per day capacity. He described it as a tremendous milestone” which supports the development of an integrated gas value chain in the country.

The move follows the start of production at the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project this year. Operated by Azule Energy and featuring Chevron as a partner, the project represents the country’s first non-associated gas project. Cassulo described it as being “part of a much larger value chain that we have been developing over time.”

With new investment planned in Block 0, NGC production underway and Angola LNG operating at capacity, Chevron is strengthening its position across Angola’s integrated gas value chain.
