Cabship Enhances International Presence, Strengthens Logistics in Angola
Angolan logistics and supply chain management company Cabship is advancing digitalization, diversification and optimized service delivery with the aim of strengthening the logistics value chain in Angola. The company’s General Manager Luis da Silva spoke with Energy Capital & Power about Cabship’s recent development, long-term strategy and how expanded logistics infrastructure supports the country’s production goals. Cabship is a Gold Sponsor of Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2024 – taking place October 2-3 in Luanda.

How have recent developments by Cabship strengthened the company’s position in Angola’s logistics sector?

We have achieved several key milestones that have solidified our leadership in Angola’s logistics sector, especially within the oil and gas industry. Notably, we successfully expanded our footprint internationally by operationalizing our offices in Houston to support our procurement subdivision in Angola, which directly supports Chevron’s procurement operations in the region. This expansion not only strengthens our capability to offer comprehensive logistics solutions like specialized procurement and freight forwarding but also positions Cabship as a vital link in connecting Angola to global supplier to the energy sector.

In addition, we have continued to deliver exceptional service on our long-standing contracts with Chevron and Azule Energy by meeting our agreed KPI goals and objectives, where we manage critical logistics and material management operations. Our team has also made great strides in the Etu Energias project, conducting an ongoing comprehensive inventory audit that will enhance the reliability, availability and efficiency of the inventory. Furthermore, our focus on compliance and sustainability has led us to adopt responsible employment principles and retain a competitive workforce, with a turnover rate of under 8%. All these efforts have strengthened our position as a dependable, market-leading logistics partner in Angola.

What progress has been made to establish a diving and offshore marine support company in Cabinda Special Economic Zone in 2024 and how does it fit into your strategic goals for the year?

The groundwork for establishing a diving and offshore marine support company in the Cabinda Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is well underway. Key infrastructure plans are being finalized, and we are in advanced discussions on acquiring the necessary assets to support marine and diving operations. This venture aligns perfectly with our strategic goal of expanding our service portfolio to include specialized marine support, thus enhancing Cabship’s capacity to provide integrated logistics solutions in Angola’s oil and gas sector.

This initiative also strengthens our presence in the Cabinda SEZ, reinforcing our commitment to leveraging the strategic importance of the region. As we move forward, this partnership with Octomar is poised to play a critical role in supporting offshore exploration activities and boosting Angola’s overall oil production capabilities.

How are Cabship’s recent projects and partnerships contribute to Angola's crude production goals and the broader development of the oil and gas sector?

Cabship's recent projects and partnerships are directly contributing to Angola’s crude production goals by streamlining the supply chain and ensuring efficient delivery of materials and services crucial for exploration and production activities. The partnership with Octomar enhances offshore marine support services, a key element in maintaining operational efficiency in Angola’s deepwater fields.

Our logistics and material management services for Chevron and Azule continue to ensure the seamless movement of critical equipment, reducing operational downtime and optimizing production timelines. Additionally, through our inventory management project with Etu Energias, we are setting new standards for accuracy and control in supply chain operations, which further supports the oil and gas sector's drive for increased efficiency and production output.

What key initiatives or projects does Cabship have planned for the remainder of 2024 and beyond? How do these align with your long-term strategy for growth and continued leadership in the logistics industry?

As we move into the final quarter of 2024, Cabship is focused on several strategic initiatives. One of our key projects is the acquisition of a 50,000 m2 construction yard near Malongo in Cabinda to support fabrication and logistics infrastructure in Cabinda and Soyo, which will increase our capacity to serve both onshore and offshore oil operations. We are also continuing our digital transformation journey, integrating more advanced technologies into our logistics operations to enhance safety and operational efficiency. We are implementing soon live cameras into all our vehicle to enhance drivers’ overall performance.

Looking beyond 2024, our long-term strategy is focused on diversifying our service offerings to agriculture, property management for the hotel sector and road freight transportation. We will also grow our international presence and strengthen partnerships within the energy sector. We plan to pursue more opportunities in renewable energy with strategic solar panels partners from India, as part of Angola’s broader energy transition strategy, ensuring we remain a key player in both the traditional and emerging energy sectors.
