Angola Starts Production at Ndungu Field, Advancing Agogo Integrated West Hub
The Ndungu development comprises seven production wells and four injection wells, situated at a water depth of approximately 1,100 meters and located just 10 kilometers from the producing Ngoma FPSO. At full capacity, the field has the potential to reach a peak of 60,000 barrels per day (bpd). In the short term, production is being routed via a tieback to the existing Ngoma FPSO infrastructure, enabling an early start to production ahead of a planned future migration to the dedicated Agogo FPSO.
An Integrated Approach to Block 15/06
Ndungu’s position is strengthened by its neighboring developments. The field sits within the broader Agogo Polo Oeste Integrated Development, which encompasses both the Agogo and Ndungu fields under a single, coordinated development framework. Together, the two fields are expected to reach a combined production peak of approximately 175,000 bpd, underscoring the ambition and scale of the West Hub strategy.
The project is operated by Azule Energy - an Eni-bp joint venture company -, which holds a 36.84% stake, alongside Sonangol E&P (36.84%) and Sinopec International (26.32%).
The Ndungu start-up come just six months after first oil from the Agogo FPSO in mid-2025, a pace that Eni described as setting “a new standard in delivering deepwater oil and gas projects at record speed.” The phased integration model demonstrates that the IWH is prioritizing leveraging existing infrastructure to accelerate production timelines and manage capital intensity.
Adriano Mongini, former-CEO of Azule Energy, previously told AOG organizer Energy Capital & Power, that “The IWH is designed to unlock the full potential of Block 15/06 by developing its two most significant discoveries – Agogo and Ndungu – whilst maximizing recovery from the original West Hub development.”
A Two-Hub Production Engine
The West Hub is only one half of the Block 15/06 story. The block’s East Hub is equally active and showing recent exploration upside. The Algaita-01 discovery, announced by the ANPG and Azule Energy on February 14, was made in close proximity to the East Hub at a water depth of 667 meters, approximately 18 kilometers from the Olombendo FPSO.
Preliminary estimates place oil in place at approximately 500 million barrels across multiple Upper Miocene intervals with what the operator described as excellent petrophysical properties and fluid mobility. It was the fourth major hydrocarbon discovery for Azule Energy since the start of 2025, adding fresh exploration potential to a block that was already producing 121,438 bpd and 192 million standard cubic feet per day as of December 2025.
Angola’s Upstream Momentum and AOG 2026
The Ndungu full-field start-up arrives at a pivotal moment for Angola’s oil sector - and ahead of the highly-anticipated Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) conference. Organized by Energy Capital & Power, the event has become a major platform for tracking the country’s upstream evolution.
AOG 2025 observed a landmark moment when the first cargo from the Agogo field was shipped during the event, demonstrating how Angola’s integrated development model is translating into tangible production gains.
With Azule Energy targeting a broader production ambition of 370,000 bpd across its Angolan portfolio, Block 15/06 and its twin hubs are set to remain a focal point for investment dialogue at AOG 2026 and beyond.
