Afentra Advances Angolan Growth Strategy, Joins AOG 2026 as Associate Sponsor
Independent oil and gas company Afentra is advancing its Angola growth strategy in 2026 following a revised transaction structure that increases national oil company Sonangol’s stake in Blocks 3/05 and 3/05A in the Lower Congo Basin. As redevelopment activities progress across these shallow water assets, Afentra has confirmed its participation as an Associate Sponsor at the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2026 Conference and Exhibition, positioning the event as a key platform for supporting the next phase of project execution.

The revised deal structures for Blocks 3/05 and 3/05A mark a significant step for Afentra’s long-term Angolan strategy, strengthening ownership dynamics and collaboration. Project partners – Sonangol (operator), Afentra, Maurel & Prom and NIS Naftgas – are embarking on a 2026–2027 infill drilling and heavy workover program at the assets, designed to unlock undeveloped resources and support Angola’s broader production targets. Two infill wells are under consideration – Impala-2 and Pacassa SW-1 – while a heavy workover program will restore production from selected wells by leveraging existing infrastructure.

Beyond Blocks 3/05 and 3/05A, Afentra is advancing a broader portfolio of Angolan assets. Offshore, the company aims to reach a final investment decision for Block 3/24 – its first operated block in Angola – by late 2026 or early 2027. The block features five discoveries – Palanca North East, Quissama, Goulongo, Cefo and Kuma – offering significant development potential alongside the previously developed Canuku field cluster, which has produced 12,000 barrels per day historically.

Onshore, Afentra is integrating results from a completed eFTG survey to refine subsurface understanding across Block KON 4 in the Kwanza Basin. The company is also acquiring geophysical data to delineate highly prospective acreage, supporting Angola’s broader ambitions to revitalize onshore production after decades of inactivity.

With the Block 3/05 and 3/05A restructuring now in place, redevelopment planning underway and onshore exploration advancing, Afentra’s strategy aligns closely with Angola’s objective of sustaining production through a mix of new exploration and optimized output from existing assets. Through its participation at AOG 2026, Afentra is expected to strengthen partnerships and advance discussions supporting the next phase of redevelopment across Angola’s shallow water and onshore portfolio.

As Angola’s premier industry event, AOG brings together government stakeholders, operators, investors and service providers to facilitate deal-making and project development. For companies like Afentra, the conference provides a platform to engage partners involved in redevelopment drilling, offshore services, subsea operations and project financing.

AOG 2026 takes place September 9-10 in Luanda, with a pre-conference day scheduled for September 8.
